World ocean power resources. Energy of flows.

The most powerful flows of ocean - a potential energy source. Modern level of technics allows to extract energy of flows at speed of a stream more than 1 km/s. Thus power from 1 sq. m of cross-section of a stream compounds about 1 kw. Perspective use of such powerful flows, as Gulf Stream and Kuroshio, bearing accordingly 83 and 55 million cubic km/s of water with a speed to 2 km/s, and Florida flow (30 million cubic km/s, speed to 1,8 km/s) is represented.

Flows are of interest for ocean power in passages Gibraltar, La Manche, Kuril. However building of ocean power stations on energy of flows is bound while to a number of technical difficulties, first of all with building of power installations of the big dimensions introducing threat to navigation.

"Coriolis" system

The program "Coriolis" provides installation in Florida strait in 30 km to the east of a city of Miami of 242 turbines with two impellers in diameter of 168 m, rotating in opposite directions. The pair of impellers takes places in the hollow chamber from the aluminium, the turbine providing buoyancy. For increase of efficacyy of the blade of wheels it is supposed to make flexible enough. All system "Coriolis" in total length of 60 km will be focused on the basic stream; its width at a location of turbines in 22 numbers on 11 turbines in everyone will compound 30 km. Units are supposed to be towed off to an installation site and sunk on 30 m not to interfere with navigation.

Beneficial power of each turbine taking into account expenses for exploitation and losses by transfer on a shore will compound 43 megawatts that will allow to satisfy requirements of state of Florida on 10 %.

The first prototype of the similar turbine in diameter of 1,5 m has been tested in Florida strait.

The project of the turbine with the impeller in diameter is developed also 12 m and power of 400 kw.
